THEME FOR AUGUST 21: “I’M SORRY, SO SORRY”

Something Cool Shabbat (SCS) reclaims a space for Jewish artistry and observance, serving anyone seeking authentic moments of connection. Leading up to Shabbat, we distill the week’s Torah portion into a simple theme—a question or an idea that becomes the thread that weaves through the evening which we share in advance.

At SCS, local musicians and artists respond to that theme through original songs, covers, stories, reflections, and more. We call these contributions “offerings”—creative expressions that help us explore Jewish wisdom through music.

Our Moontower Minyan house band accompanies each artist, creating a cohesive musical journey that unfolds throughout the service. Along the way, Rabbi Dan Ain helps connect each offering to the Torah portion, illuminating new paths for ancient teachings to continue to speak to us today.

What to Expect:

** A one-of-a-kind Shabbat gathering where music is a spiritual practice

** Local artists sharing songs and stories inspired by the week’s Torah theme

** Thoughtful reflections that connect Jewish tradition to everyday life

** A relaxed, creative atmosphere in an East Austin gallery space

** No expectations, no prerequisites, and no pressure to participate

The Evening:

7:00 PM — Shabbat Service An hour of music, reflection, Torah, and community led by Rabbi Dan Ain, the Moontower Minyan house band, and guest artists.

After the Service: Stay for food, conversation, spontaneous music-making, and connection with Austin’s creative Jewish community.
